These Za’atar Crescent rolls are a combination of soft and buttery refrigerated crescent dough and Za’atar, the delicious Middle-Eastern spice mix.
Za’atar Crescent Rolls

These Za’atar Crescent rolls are staple breakfast item in so many Lebanese households, mine included. I don’t remember exactly when my mom started making these or how they came to be. I just remember my mother giving me or my sister the task of making them while she worked on the rest of the “mezze style” Lebanese breakfast. This usually consisted of labneh, olives, some sort of cheese (salty string cheese or Halloumi), sliced cucumbers, tomatoes and other fresh vegetables along with a plate of eggs or foul!

These rolls are so easy to whip up and make a wonderful breakfast option when you are craving manakeesh za’atar but, are short on time to make homemade dough. The very basic steps required are to pop open a can of the refrigerated crescent roll dough, unroll, spread on some za’atar mixed with olive oil and roll them back up. Bake them in the oven for 11-13 minutes and you have yourselves delicious Za’atar breakfast rolls.

STEP 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

STEP 2

Open the can of crescent dough.
Unroll and separate into the 8 pre-cut triangles.

STEP 3

Mix the za’atar spice mix and olive oil. Spread about a teaspoon (give or take according to your preference) all over the crescent roll.

STEP 4

Roll the dough forward towards the pointy side and place the crescent on a baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.
